Creative Studio for the Nokia Lumia 900 is available from the Windows Marketplace free of charge and the new application delivers some excellent features to help you create the perfect photographs. Still camera applications are very popular at the moment on rival platforms so Creative Studio is Nokia’s attempt to help the Lumia range to rival other phones in this area. The software allows you to edit photographs that you have already taken with the device rather than adding real time effects while you are capturing the moment. In addition to images taken by the phone the software can also work its magic on images from other sources such as Facebook and Twitter. The effects that have the most drastic results on photographs are the numerous filters that can be applied to a shot. These can give the image a very vintage or retro feel and can turn an average photograph into something that looks quite spectacular. A clever element of the service is that it allows users to have a before and after view of the photo so it is easy to see the exact effect that the filter has applied to your image. Read more...
One could argue that we do not need any more social networking platforms with dozens currently available but Path for the Sony Xperia S is a little different as it tries to deliver a more personal and private user experience. The service is developed by Dave Morin who is a former Facebook executive and Shawn Fanning who is the co-creator of Napster. Path aims to combine all of the best elements from rival social networking platforms and provide users with a simple new platform. In a bid to build the popularity of this new service the developers have released this new Android application so consumers can familiarise themselves with the service. The aim of the software is to help users create a timeline of their life. The main way users can do this is by uploading photographs but there are other elements that can also be uploaded and used. When users first download the software they have to create an account which can be done from directly within the application rather than requiring the user to log onto a desktop to perform this task. Once you have created your account this becomes the first step on your “path”. Read more...
Step 1: Find the Google Play or Market widget icon on your smart phone. Just recently, Google switched from the Android Market to a full site, called “Google Play” that includes books, music, movies and Android apps.
Step 2: Once you’ve found the icon it will open up and Google will show you all of their featured apps, books, movies and music. There should also be a magnifying glass at the top right of the screen. You can click on it and a search text field will open. Here you can search for any Android app. For the purpose of this tutorial, type “skype” into the text area. Once the “skype” shows up in the drop down area, tap it and you will be brought to the download area. There will be a few different options, such as “Skype-Free Video calling” and “Direct Dial with Skype”. The rest will be music and book options, so choose the top option, “Skype-Free Video calling”. Launched to a fanfare as a device that had the potential to topple Apple’s dominance of the tablet computing market, the Playbook suffered from limitations that meant it never really managed to make that big step up, but things might be about to change.
RIM, the company that owns Blackberry devices, has announced the launch of the 2.0 operating software for it’s flagship tablet computer. Whilst the exact release date is not yet known, reports are surfacing that we could well be seeing it on our screens as early as February 21st, 2012.
This is news welcomed with joy by the many Playbook owners, who have been looking for something that would allow them to enjoy their tablets in the same way users enjoy the likes of the iPad. But what will it bring? Read more...
A new survey claims that the prices of smartphones in the UK are dropping so quickly they could account for half the devices on the high street by the end of this year.
Devices like Apple’s iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Sensation won over smartphone users in 2011. 1: Your Carrier
Not all carriers support Apple’s iPhone; in fact, only three major United States carriers can sell and support the smartphone, including Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. Although this may seem like a small number of choices, you should be aware that AT&T used to have a monopoly on the iPhone as the only carrier. If you have a different carrier currently, you should research each iPhone carrier’s service bundles. Each company offers different incentives to lure customers in; you need to choose the best option for your personal tastes. Read more...
